The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for professional development programs at New Jersey City University. NJCU’s Professional Development and Renewal Program (PDRP), which began in the Fall 1992 semester, provides university support for professional development and research. The PDRP was developed with input from faculty and professional staff members, administrators, the University Senate, and AFT local 1839, who share ownership of its design, implementation and evaluation. The PDRP provides faculty and staff with opportunities and resources to:
• improve the quality of teaching;
• increase research, publications, exhibition and performances;
• strengthen and expand professional and personal development;
• expand community and university service activities; • enhance public awareness of and esteem for NJCU; and
• enrich the campus environment through community-building.
Participation in the PDRP is voluntary. Several university-based programs provide incentives to faculty and staff who pursue professional development and research activities. Although funding for professional travel may come from PDRP sources, there are general procedures for applying for funding to travel to present work at conferences.
(Information about and assistance with applying for governmental grant programs is available through NJCU's Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs. Information about and assistance with applying for private foundation support is available through NJCU's Division of University Advancement).
