Course DescriptionsENGL 090 College Writing, 3 non-degree credits ENGL 105 College Writing, 2 credits The purpose of these courses is to develop students' ability to write an essay in standard English which is thoughtful, organized, and free of mechanical errors. The considerable class time and limited class size permit the course to function as a studio course. Lectures, discussions, and exercises are aimed at preparing for and evaluating the students' written assignments. LINIK TO JOSH's WEBPAGE MATH 095 Basic College Math, 3 non-degree credits The course is designed to provide the student with work in basic mathematical skills and concepts which will prepare the student for entry into college mathematics courses. MATH 098 Algebra for College, 4 non-degree credits This course is designed to introduce students to algebra. It concentrates on graphic representation, problem-solving, and the use and manipulation of polynomials and other algebraic expressions to model and interpret real-life situations. LTED 090 Reading for College, 4 non-degree credits This is a two-semester course; however, students have the opportunity of testing out of the second semester and moving on to the college level reading course, Reading and Study Skills. LTED 101 Reading and Study Skills, 3 credits This course focuses on reading improvement and on the development of academic literacy. Students learn to use textbooks with both understanding and efficiency, and receive instruction in such study strategies as note taking and test-taking. Major emphasis is placed on preparing students for academic success. Both personalized and cooperative instruction techniques are employed. |
