Academic Foundations Program

 Mission Statement

In line with the New Jersey City University and Vision 2010 mission “to provide a diverse population with access to an excellent university education,” the mission of the Academic Foundations Program is to develop the fundamental skills of those students who enter the university having not yet demonstrated college level skills, as shown in their placement tests in the vital areas of writing, reading and mathematics. The program’s overall mission, as indicated by the outcomes assessment goals for the Mathematics, English, and Literacy Education departments’ Academic Foundation courses, is to improve the mathematical, writing, reading and study skills of these students through small concentrated classes that allow opportunity for individualized instruction and close personal attention. The classes aim to develop the students’ abilities in critical thinking and problem solving while improving their skills in all university courses.
