Program Structure

The placement of students into specific courses is based upon a placement test. The placement test is designed to help students by providing information about individual skills in language and mathematics. The test measures skills in reading, writing, computation, and elementary algebra. The information is used to determine whether or not students need special help in particular areas in order to succeed at college-level work and to assist in placing the student in particular courses suited to his/her preparation.

All full-time and part-time freshmen who are seeking a degree are required to take the test, as is any student who registers for a course that would result in the accumulation of 12 or more credits and any freshmen transfer student who has not taken the test.  There is no fee for taking the test. Students are tested only after they have been admitted to the University.
