Mission Statement

Minor in African/African American Studies

The New Jersey City University Program in African/African American Studies offer students multi-disciplinary perspective of the cultures and peoples of Africa and African-American descent in the Americas. The program explores in depth, the historical, social, political, and economic experiences of Africans and African Americans. We provide a global understanding of African/African Americans in the contemporary world.

Program Goals/Outcomes

Students who minor in the African/African American studies should be able to:

  1. To understand African civilization as the foundation of African American culture and experiences.
  2. To analyze the role African people have played in developing American and world civilizations.
  3. To understand American history is enhanced by learning about the African American historical experiences and contributions.
  4. To demonstrate an understanding of the culture, history, and contributions of African people in the diaspora.
  5. To demonstrate an understanding of the geo-politics of Africa today.
  6. To demonstrate knowledge about the role played by international and regional organizations in the development of Africa.
