Welcome to the William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences at New Jersey City University. Located only minutes away from New York City, NJCU has been a vital part of the Jersey City community for over 75 years. We are proud of our academic programs and the many opportunities students have at NJCU both to receive a liberal arts and sciences education and to major in one of our many degree options. The faculty of the William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences are dedicated educators committed to teaching and advising students as they progress towards fulfillment of their studies. On the undergraduate level, the Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences is entrusted with providing the general education experience for all our entering students. During their first two years, students choose from a variety of courses representing the disciplines and areas of study in the college in a program designed to fulfill our mission of educating the whole person and preparing our graduates for success in the 21st century workplace. Even while fulfilling general studies requirements, students have the opportunity to choose from 18 majors, some offering various degree options. Many of our students choose to co-major in education (through the College of Education) and graduate with New Jersey teaching certifications. Many also opt to supplement their major with a liberal arts co-major or a minor in one of our 21 academic programs. We also offer students the opportunity to participate in exciting programs such as the Model United Nations Assembly, the Model African Union Assembly, the Urban Image Film Collective, and our celebrated music and theatre productions. The Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences also offers several graduate degrees and works closely with the Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies to provide graduate students with opportunities towards pursuing post-baccalaureate studies. The decanal and office staff of the William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences is here to assist you as you make your choices and guide you toward the successful completion of your degree. Please do not hesitate to visit us. Again, welcome! Liza Fiol-Matta, Ph.D. Dean, William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences |
