Honors Program
Mission Statement
The Honors Program offers special challenges and opportunities to a small number of academically talented and highly motivated undergraduate students. It fosters collaborative relationships between students and dedicated faculty through small intensive classes, a faculty mentoring system for introducing students to the intellectual standards and methodologies of academic disciplines, and informal contacts encouraged by increased opportunities to interact with faculty. These opportunities are provided primarily by means of special honors courses, seminars, projects, and individual advising. The mission, therefore, includes working with departments and individual faculty members in arranging for appropriate honors courses, providing advice and feedback to those offering these courses, and providing information about, and encouraging participation in, a variety of non-classroom educational activities, including undergraduate research, study abroad, community service, off-campus internships, and national and local scholarship competitions.
