Ms. Rosa Perez, Assistant to the Dean
Ms. Rosa E. Perez 
 
  Ms. Rosa E. Perez received her B.A. from Pace University in New York City in 1999. She received an M.A. and Ed.M. from Teachers College, Columbia University in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Higher Education and Career Development in 2003. She previously worked for the Opportunity Scholarship Program as a Junior/Senior Counselor. She provided academic and career counseling, and organized various events for the upper classmen. Prior to joining the NJCU community, she worked for Community Impact, Columbia University, coordinating and training five undergraduate mentoring programs. In addition, she worked as a Career Counselor in the Center for Career Education at Columbia University, where she was responsible for providing career counseling, and facilitating career seminars to the undergraduate and graduate students. She has held several Research Assistant positions. Currently, her research interests are in women and career development; mentoring minority students; and adult learners in higher education.
 
In her function as Assistant to the Dean, Ms. Perez works under the direction of the Dean to implement policies and procedures for the college. Her primary responsibilities are to oversee course scheduling and staffing, staff the Orientation to College, Human & Intercultural Relations, and Computer as a Tool courses. She addresses students’ academic concerns, reviews late withdrawals, course substitutions, and answers questions pertaining to the general studies requirements. She monitors the enrollment of courses and admits students into closed courses. She organizes the annual faculty retreat, monthly Chairs and Coordinators meetings, and the annual college-wide Academic Program Festival. She addresses faculty issues and reviews assignments sheets for the college. She serves as a liaison to twenty-four academic departments. She also monitors three listservs for the college and handles all aspects of student grievances. In collaboration with the Associate Dean, she monitors declared students who have not registered and executes retention initiatives to increase enrollment. In addition, she reviews independent study proposals and registers students for the appropriate sections.
