The first are general data type articles about general studies, the next set look at ways to structure general studies programs, the next set examine the procedures for developing general studies programs, the next looks at the content of those programs, and the next look at ways to assess those programs. Finally, the last section includes links to General Studies programs at other colleges and universities as well as a table comparing the NJCU general studies program to other such programs at institutions in New Jersey, New York, eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
American Council of Trustees and Alumni. 2009. “What Will They Learn: A Report on General Education Requirements at 100 of the Nation’s Leading Colleges and Universities.”
This is a publication from a fairly right wing think tank that’s pretty critical of the general education programs at the top universities in the country. I included it mostly because it garnered some publicity and media attention on what exactly we want our students to learn or what constitutes “general education” for a functioning democracy.
