Tuesday, November 13th

3:00-4:30 PM

Presented By

Robert Albrecht

Associate Professor of Media Arts at NJCU

Dina Bruno

Drama Workshop Leader, Educational Arts Team, Jersey City

Learn An Innovative Teaching Method for Helping Your Students To:

  • become more actively involved in the learning experience as it transpires in the classroom
  • formulate and ask question in a public forum
  • respond to information from a critical perspective
  • listen to information provided by other students and the professor
  • organize their ideas in a coherent way and present them in a written format
  • work together as part of a group

Using a variety of process drama techniques, the workshop leaders will guide an exploration of media bias in the reporting of a fictional incident involving the NYPD. Participants will be put in the role of reporters, eyewitnesses to the event, and relevant members of the community while the leaders will move in and out of role facilitating the workshop.

The process drama workshop incorporates such skills as formulating and asking questions, public speaking, taking notes, and writing reports. The workshop concludes with the writing of a newspaper article from one of three perspectives: partisan press, commercial press, or a paper of record.
