WebCT and Video: Expanding and Enhancing the Face-to-Face Classroom Presented by Dr. Debbie Bennett Departments of Mathematics and Elementary/Secondary Education Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Center for Teaching and Learning Vodra Hall Room 143 2:00-3:30 PM RSVP: Elizabeth Silvas (silvas1@njcu.edu) or call 201-200-2116 Engage your students! Expand and enhance the classroom experience!
In a course syllabus that is already too crowded, the use of WebCT discussion boards provides an effective tool for stimulating student dialogue outside of the classroom. Reviewing videotapes of their presentations give students an invaluable look at themselves and teaches them the skill of self-assessment. Join Dr. Debbie Bennett as she describes her experiences preparing students for mathematics teaching in a course packed with activities. In one 3-credit course prior to student teaching, math teacher candidates must receive all their necessary preparation for mathematics teaching. How is it possible to organize and manage all of the relevant instruction and materials, engage students in dialogue and discussion, and provide them with effective public speaking experiences? Technology in the form of WebCT and video help provide some of the answers.
