Beginning on November 1, 2009, the New Jersey Department of Education will require teaching candidates to complete this 24-hour course before they can earn their certificate of eligibility (CE). Students will receive 20 hours of instruction and independently complete four hours of classroom observation. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to earn their CE, secure a teaching position, and begin the alternate route program to earn their standard teaching certification. This will be a blended course, involving at least two face-to-face meetings and online instruction using WebCT. Students will receive 18 hours of instruction and independently complete 6 hours of classroom observation. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to earn their CE, which will allow them to apply for a teaching position and begin the alternate route certification program.
