Making Appointments
Day or evening appointments may be made by coming to the Counseling Center or by calling
(201) 200-3165 during office hours. When making an appointment, you will be asked for your name, your Gothic ID number, and the telephone number you can best be reached at. We will make every effort to schedule you for an appointment as soon as possible. Appointments are usually scheduled on the hour, and are
45 minutes long.
Wait List Information
At this time, due to very high demand for our services, the Counseling Center is maintaining a wait list for students requesting counseling. When students call for an appointment, they are being offered the following options: (1) To add their names to our wait list for ongoing services. (2) To make an appointment for a one time consultation while remaining on the waitlist for ongoing services.
(3) To obtain referral information from us about local community mental health agencies that provide counseling on a sliding-fee basis, or if requested, information about local private practitioners (4) To remain on our wait list while seeking counseling elsewhere until an appointment becomes available at our office Please be assured that we are doing our very best to continue providing students with quality services as quickly as our schedules allow. Thank you for your patience.
Cancellations
If you will be unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please call the Center as soon as possible to let us know of the cancellation (when the Center is closed, you may leave a voicemail message to inform us of the cancellation). Please note that, due to the high demand for our services, if you miss or cancel
two
consecutive appointments in any given semester you will need to wait until the following semester before you will be able to schedule another appointment with your counselor.
If, for some reason, your counselor will be unavailable for your scheduled appointment, we will make every effort to contact you as soon as possible to reschedule. Please make sure that our staff has a current contact number for you so that you can be contacted.
As an office of NJCU, we will be closed when the University is closed due to inclement weather or other emergency situations. If you miss an appointment due to a University closure, please contact our office to reschedule as soon as the University reopens.
