The Walter GlospieAcademy of American Poets Prize 2009
The Contest
Undergraduates at New Jersey City University should submit three poems, typed, with your name, home address, phone, and email address on each page. Manuscripts will not be returned.
The Prizes
$100 to a sole winner (or to be divided between two co-winners), a letter of congratulations, and a one-year membership to The Academy of American Poets . The winner(s) and the university will be listed in the organization’s Annual Report. A certificate will be sent to an honorable mention recipient. The contest’s results will be announced by May 1st.
The Judge
Sharon Lattig, a professor of English at New Jersey City University, holds a Ph.D. in English from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where she also studied neuroscience. Her critical work develops a cognitive theory of lyric poetry. Sharon received her M.F.A. in creative writing from the City College of New York . Her poetry has appeared in journals such as The Columbia Poetry Review, Murmur, Promethean, and W hatever. She has been active in the poetry community in various capacities, including ten years as the Poetry Series Curator at the Dactyl Foundation for the Arts and Humanities.
The Deadline: Monday, April 20, 2009
Place submissions in the mailbox of Professor Charles Lynch in the English Department, Karnoutsos 304, or email them to CLYNCH@NJCU.EDU using the subject line “POEMS for AAPP” and your name. Send your submission as a file in .rtf (Rich Text Format). If possible, send the poems from your NJCU email account.
