Welcome! The History Department at NJCU is proud of its contribution to the university's urban mission to provide quality educations for traditional and non-traditional students in the Jersey City region. We are also proud of our participation in Brookdale Community College's Communiversity program, which provides history co-majors for NJCU education majors at the Communiversity campus in Wall Township. In all of our endeavors, we strive to make history come alive for our students and get them excited about the past.
One of the questions that is most commonly asked of department members is, "What can I do with a history major?" In addition to serving as a springboard for becoming a social studies teacher, a history major can also help to prepare you for careers where research and writing skills play a major role: journalism, law, public relations, advertising, business, foreign service, criminal justice, library science, public history, or consulting.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss our program further with you. You can either make an appointment through the contact link on this website or call Patricia Catrillo, the department's administrative assistant, at (201) 200-3251 to set up an appointment.
Sincerely,
The NJCU Department of History
Dr. Rosemary Fox Thurston, Chair
