The Film Area of the Media Arts Department focuses on 16mm production and post-production and instructs students in all phases of filmmaking including the technical aspects of exposure; lenses; “sync” and “non-sync” cameras; lighting; editing; and post-production sound mixing. Students also learn the conceptual skills of various directing techniques; the creative use of cinematography; communication within a production crew; and how the integration of these techniques will take a film project from script to screen. Our students have abundant access to Bolex and Arriflex-S non-sync cameras as well as CP-16, Arriflex BL and Arriflex SR cameras. The support equipment includes Lowell and Arriflex lighting kits; Nagra and Sony and Fostex DAT recorders; Eagle doorway dollies; an AVID editing suite and numerous Steenbeck editing rooms. Post-production facilities also include a JK Optical Printer, an audio transfer room, and 16mm interlock mixing capabilities.
