Program Requirements

                    


General Requirements for Applicants:

1. This course is open to all matriculated NJCU students with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Only six students will be selected to participate.

2. Applicants must be US citizens or Permanent Residents. Note: Citizens of some countries require a visa to enter Peru. Please see the the Peruvian Consulate's
website for a listing of countries that require a visa. It is the student's responsibility to obtain a visa BEFORE air tickets are purchased.

3. Applicants must currently have a passport that is valid at least until August 2012.

4. Applicants must complete the on-line " Acknowledgment of Specific Conditions " form. This form confirms that you have read, and agree to, the conditions for participating in this program.

5. Applicants must complete the On-line Medical and Emergency Contact Information Form/ On-line Acknowledgment of Responsibility Form  This form has two purposes: to provide information on emergency contacts, health concerns and insurance relevant to the trip, and to outline your general responsibilities and obligation to behave in an appropriate manner during the program. You must complete the form and agree to the conditions of the program by electronically signing and submitting this form


6. Applicants must complete an on-line application form, which includes an essay and a letter of recommendation. The deadline for all application materials is Wednesday April 18 @ 5PM. Students will be notified on Monday, April 23.

If selected, participants must:

1.Submit a $1400 NON REFUNDABLE ** payment no later than Monday, April 30. Students will receive a $550 credit towards their course tuition. Payment can be made by check or credit card.

2. Register for Summer course "Historic Cities in Global Perspective" no later than May 21. Students are responsible for $450 balance for the three credit tuition. Regular Summer course rules and procedures apply.

3. Purchase medical insurance that can be used overseas and that provides coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation. HTH Worldwide sells "Travel Gap Voyager" coverage. The cost of insurance for a 21 year old student $10- $20, depending upon the level of coverage and deductible. http://www.hthtravelinsurance.com/purchase/quote/quote_upd.cfm . Proof of insurance is required by May 25.

4. Attend an orientation in mid- May which will cover academic requirements, health and safety issues , and general travel information

** NJCU is able to offer this program at a heavily subsidized rate thanks to generous private donations and contributions. $1400 is the actual airfare to Cuzco, Peru; air tickets are non-refundable. Therefore, if a student withdraws after paying the deposit, the University is able to fund another student to take his/her place.
