International Students planning to study in the United States are required to obtain the Student (F1) Visa unless they have another valid non-immigrant visa status that allows them to remain in the U.S. If you plan to obtain the Student Visa status for study at New Jersey City University, you must be accepted to the University and obtain the I-20 Certificate of Financial Eligibility form from the Office of International Students and Study Abroad. The I-20 form is required in order to obtain valid F1 Student visa status.
If you are already in the United States and will be transferring your student visa status from another U.S. institution, please see the additional requirements for transfer students. In order to obtain an I-20 Certificate of Financial Eligibility from New Jersey City University, you must meet the following requirements: 1. You must apply and be accepted to the University: In order to be accepted to New Jersey City University, you must file an application through the appropriate admissions office for your level of study. Both undergraduate and graduate students must apply to respective Admissions Offices in Hepburn Hall. The application consists of the application form and any other necessary documents as indicated on the application instructions. 2. You must complete the "Request for I-20 Form" and send it with the required financial support documents to Office of International Students and Study Abroad.
In order to qualify for an I-20 Certificate of Financial Eligibility and the F1 Student Visa, you must be able to show sufficient support in the form of a bank statement and proof of family or other sponsor’s income. The cost of living in the US depends on your lifestyle. International students are responsible for financing their education at MSU. The University has no financial aid available for new international students. It is very important that you understand that you will be required to pay tuition and fees in full at the time of registration each semester.F1 student status holders are required to register full-time each semester.

Students with B1/B2 Status - Recent changes in United States Immigration regulations prohibit a B1/B2 (B-1 visitors for business and B-1 visitors for pleasure) status holder from "enrolling in a course of study or taking other actions inconsistent with B non-immigrant status" unless and until the Immigration Service has approved the B non-immigrant's change to "an appropriate student nonimmigrant status" (F-1).
Students with F-2 status - Federal Immigration regulations governing F-2, dependent of F-1 status, prohibit a person in F-2 status from enrolling in University classes. Therefore, all students in B1/B2 and F2 visa status must first apply for and receive approval for a change to F-1 student status before registering for classes at New Jersey City University.
