Study Renewable Energy in Costa Rica

NJCU and The Latino Institute will sponsor two to three NJCU students to participate in the GREEN program in Liberia, Costa Rica. This twelve day program focuses on alternative energy and sustainability: Geothermal, Bio-Cogeneration, Low-Pressure Hydroelectric, High Pressure Hydroelectric, Wind Energy, Solar . The program includes hands-on site visits and tours. Visit the GREEN program website http://greenworknow.com for details.

NJCU and The Latino Institute will cover all program costs, including program fees, accommodations, meals and activities for two NJCU students. Students will be responsible for airfare to Liberia, Costa Rica [approx $550] and personal expenses [approx $300 recommended]. The following costs will be covered:

  • Health & Emergency Medical Insurance
  • In-Country Transportation
  • Accommodations
  •   Meals
  •   Nightly cultural activities
  •   Ten Adventure Excursions including Waterfalls, Hot Springs, Rafting, Jungle Hikes, Zip-Lining, Beach Trips and More

Application Requirements:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a passport that is valid at least until February 2013
  • Visa requirements: US Citizens and most permanent residents do not require a visa to travel to Costa Rica. Please see http://costarica.com/visa for details. If you do not require a visa, you are eligible to apply.
  • The program is open to all full-time matriculated NJCU undergraduate and graduate students. All majors welcome. Applicants must have an interest in renewable energy.
  • There is a competitive application process- on-line application, minimum 3.0 GPA, and letter of recommendation from an NJCU faculty member are required.
  • Students must also submit an on-line application to the GREEN program http://www.greenworknow.com/application   Participants are applying to the “Latino Institute GREEN Program (Jul 25 - Aug 5)” NOTE: The program is open to ALL students, regardless of background

Participants will be notified June 22

Airfare payment due July 2
