Dr. Slade is Professor of Sociology and Anthropology and the former department chair. She received her bachelor's degree from Hunter College, master and Ph.D degrees from Columbia University, and her RN credential from the Bellevue School of Nursing. In addition to teaching at NJCU, she has taught at Hunter College, Farleigh Dickinson University, The College of the Virgin Islands. Greatly involved in interdisciplinary teaching, Dr. Slade has taught courses in the Multicultural Program, Ethnic Studies, African-American/African Studies, and Women's Studies programs.

In her area of specialization--The Family--Dr. Slade has been a participant in many workshops, scholarly meetings and conferences, a guest lecturer in the public school system and a discussant on Channel 2 News and Channel 9's "Straight Talk" program.

Dr. Slade has served on many committees and boards including the Archdiocese of Newark, the Jersey City Board of Education, The NJ State Department of Health-Cardiovascular Health Advisory Panel, the NJ State Board of Human Services, the Hudson County Task Force on Foster Care, and the Hudson County Service Commission.

Dr. Slade has been the recipient of Merit, Research, and Civil Rights Awards and has honorary listings in Who's Who in the East and Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans
