Vacancy Announcement New Jersey City University Department of Athletics Head Athletic Trainer (Professional Service Specialist 3)
New Jersey City University Department of Athletics is seeking a candidate for the following position to manage and supervise a state-of-the-art athletic training room; which includes the evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, maintenance of medical records, coordination of the athletic insurance policy, and to perform other related duties as required.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for the organization and administration of the University’s sports medicine program and provides injury prevention, assessments and rehabilitation services for student-athletes in all intercollegiate sports. Major responsibilities include: Maintaining complete medical files for all intercollegiate athletes (i.e., injury evaluations, rehabilitation forms, medical histories, etc.). The Head Athletic Trainer will maintain continuous monitoring of the immunization records for all student-athletes and coordinates NJCU’s athletic insurance policy through maintenance of student-athletes insurance records and processing of claims to appropriate providers. The preparation of an annual budget, monitoring inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment are duties associated with the position. Physical examinations and musculoskeletal screenings with the team physician are arranged by the Head Athletic Trainer for all intercollegiate student-athletes. The Head Athletic Trainer communicates the status of injured student-athletes to the team physician, director of athletics, coaches and athletic training staff throughout individual seasons. Following injuries to student-athletes, pre-participation clearance and return to activity clearance is determined by the Head Athletic Trainer upon consultation with the team physician. The Head Athletic Trainer also serves as liaison with area hospitals, radiology clinics and physicians, as well as the medical department, coaches, athletes and parents. An annual report, including an injury breakdown and analysis; inventory of supplies and equipment; and recommendations for program development/ improvement; is completed by the Head Athletic Trainer. Additional duties as assigned.
The Head Athletic Trainer position requires the following certifications and licenses: National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification State of New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners License
A Bachelor’s Degree is also required in addition to a valid driver’s license. A minimum of three years of practitioner experience in an intercollegiate athletics setting is preferred.
