Assistant Professor in Music Education
Anticipated Vacancy

Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2010

The Music, Dance and Theatre Department of the William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences at New Jersey City University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Education.

 Major duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in the undergraduate and/or graduate music education curriculum
  • Supervise student teachers; advise students
  • Teach courses related to the candidate’s area of expertise and needs of the department
  • Create/maintain a visible profile as a researcher/practitioner in the music education.

 Education, Experience, and Special Skills Required:

  • Doctorate in Music Education
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the college/university level
  • Minimum of three years of successful public school (K-12) teaching experience
  • Competency in current Music Education Methodologies
  • Candidate must demonstrate potential for strong leadership in the music education community
  • Candidate must demonstrate knowledge of National and State Standards in Music Education
  • Candidate must engage in scholarly/creative activities
  • Candidate must be willing to partake in related departmental responsibilities.
