Mentoring
Each Project Mentor student is assigned to a specified mentor who meets with the student weekly, by appointment. Mentor sessions include academic advisement, schedule adjustments, tutoring and career development. Mentors help students negotiate accommodations based on their specific disability. Mentors also provide counseling regarding specific issues for students with learning disabilities. Our list of mentors can be found on the Staff/Mentors page. Professional Tutorial Professional Tutorial for Project Mentor occurs with a drop-in schedule each semester. Tutors are available for all subjects, with a concentration in English and Math skills. Tutors are professionals who are trained and skilled to tutor students with learning disabilities by being adaptable and supportive. The schedule for the current semester can be found on the Tutorial Schedule page. Assistive Technology Students may receive accommodations for assistive technology. Technology available includes talking word processing programs, scan/read programs, portable note takers, tape recorders and textbooks on tape/CD. Project Mentor students may borrow technology from the Adaptive Technology Center at The College of New Jersey and complete a college student lending form.
Summer Orientation Program
The four-week Summer Orientation Program provides an intensive academic and personal challenge as well as an orientation to college life. Learning, study and organizational strategies and skills, which are crucial for success in college, are applied within simulated college courses. Writing in response to assigned and self-chosen readings, editing written work, computer applications, assistive technology training and mathematics instruction forms the foundation of the summer curriculum. During the four-week period, students are enrolled in a Learning Strategies course in which they receive three (3) college credits (elective credit). Placement testing, academic advising, and registration for the fall semester take place during this time as well. After completing the summer program, Project Mentor students become ‘savvy’ members of the University community. If a Project Mentor student participates in the summer orientation program, he/she will be expected to pay tuition and fees for any college level course for which he/she is registered. Project Eye to Eye
Project Mentor is also a university site for the non-profit organization, Project Eye-to-Eye, which links Project Mentor students as mentors and tutors to elementary and secondary students with learning disabilities. If you are a student in Project Mentor, please contact the Site Coordinator.

PM Learning Challenges Support Squad
Project Mentor students have the opportunity to discuss challenges, triumphs, problems, concerns and build new alliances with the program. The group will meet once a week in the Project Mentor office and will be facilitated by Jennifer Aitken and Dr. Alissa Koval Dhaliwal. Students are encouraged to come to find support, share ideas and talk with other Project Mentor students. The peer support group is a new intiative and collaboration between the NJCU Counseling Center and Project Mentor.
