Robert Noyce Math And Science Teachers (MAST) Fellowship Program at NJCU

NJCU has secured an NSF Robert Noyce Fellowship grant of nearly $1.5 million to recruit and support 20 candidates in a fast-track Master of Arts in Teaching program with guaranteed job placement in a high-need school.
- Objectives of the MAST Fellowship Program:
-
To recruit 20 students into a graduate Education program to become Mathematics and/or Science teachers
(2 cohorts [5 + 15] now recruited
);
-
To place the MAST Fellows into jobs in high-need schools in Jersey City and Union City as well as Academy Charter High School
(Cohort 1 members placed in Jersey City
);

To support the MAST Fellows in their first four years of teaching so that they are retained and become exemplary science and mathematics teachers.
- Benefits of the MAST Fellowship Program:
Each Fellow will receive a stipend of $10,000 during the year of their teacher preparation to help defray educational expenses. Each Fellow will receive $10,000 per year in salary supplements during the first four years of their teaching
Each Fellow will have a Classroom Mentor and two assigned College Mentors who are NJCU faculty
Fellows will attend a week-long professional development program in summer
Fellows will attend four specially designed workshops each academic year on specific disciplinary topics in science and mathematics education
Fellows will have annual membership in a program that brings teachers, scientists, researchers, and experts in scientific fields together to enhance teacher's science and mathematics backgrounds, develop techniques to enrich student's classroom science experiences and build resources for use in the classroom.
