Garden State - Louis Stokes Alliance
for Minority Participation
(GS-LSAMP)
The GOAL of the 9-University, NSF Garden State - Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (GS-LSAMP) is to recruit, retain, and graduate increased numbers of Science and Math professionals in order to produce a better-trained, more diversified 21st century STEM workforce.
INCENTIVES
for NJCU STEM Majors to
join LSAMP:
New LSAMP members
will receive a
$100 stipend added to their Gothic Cards in exchange for attending at least 6 LSAMP activities, such as:
- monthly meetings,
- Mentoring Circles,
- academic workshops,
- events at partner LSAMP campuses,
or other sponsored activity during the 2011-12 Academic Year.

LSAMP member

As you develop prowess in your STEM major, you will be among an elite group of students to be considered for service as Peer Tutors or Mentors, who earn
$15 / hour
Along with significant financial support, LSAMP tutors and mentors develop valuable skills while helping their fellow majors persist at NJCU:
- critical-thinking,
-problem-solving,
- oral communication,
all of which are "Resume-Builders" for prospective employers!
Being an LSAMP Scholar also provides opportunities to have international experiences at laboratories through special programs that provide financial support. Scholars also qualify for the Bridges to the Doctorate program which allows attendance at any one of a number of universities with exceptional financial support for two years just to take courses and a commitment from the department for support throughout the graduate career.
