Women's and Gender Studies at NJCU offers an array of interesting classes, many of which will meet the General Education requirement (
c
ourse codes marked with an asterisk in Course Descriptions).
Students in Women's and Gender Studies can expect to emerge from their classes with:
1) an understanding of the history of feminism, including crucial problems and debates within the movement; 2) an awareness of overlapping structures of oppression, such as race, class, and sexuality;
3) an ability to understand and intervene in ongoing feminist and political debates; and 4) a sense of the ramifications of feminist thought for various disciplines.
In addition, courses in Women's and Gender Studies work to make visible the connections between the "personal" and the "political" in order to enable students to identify their own intellectual, political, and personal goals. Students are prepared by their course work to bring these goals to bear on their interactions within their communities, workplaces, and families.
