Beginning Spring 2009, candidates who do not pass the ToW&R will be given a score of F1 or F3 under the column Letter Score. These codes correspond with two different recommended remediation plans.
1. A score of
F1 indicates a determination of isolated writing deficiencies. The Writing Assessment Committee expects these students to access the University Writing Center located in Karnoutsos Hall, Rm 115.
Students are expected to make and keep
four (4) appointments at the Writing Center with a professional tutor prior to any retest.
Students should obtain a copy of your marked exam and scored rubric. E-mail writingassessment@njcu.edu or stop in the office (P303) and fill out a "Test Request Form." Students can retrieve your test from the office, 3 days after your request. Students should bring a copy of their failing test and scored rubrics to discuss with the Writing Center tutor.
2. A score of
F3 indicates more widespread writing problems. The Writing Assessment Committee expects these students to enroll in LTED 305: Literacy Workshop for Pre-Service Teachers.
Students will need to pass the class with a grade of B or better in order to meet the Writing Assessment requirement and move on in their programs. Note, the College of Education ToW&R will be administered as the final exam in LTED 305 and will constitute 30% of the final grade; students who fail the assessment will
not receive a B or better in the course. Students enrolled in LTED 305
may not otherwise register for the writing assessment during the semester they are taking the course.
Candidates who do not pass the Writing Assessment may also demonstrate competence in literacy by passing the PRAXIS Pre-Professional Skills Test: Writing (0720), with a score of 4 or better.
