Information for Students who Have Failed

Candidates who do not pass the Writing Assessment will be provided with the following 3 options to demonstrate competence in literacy skills and be approved for clinical and field experiences:

1. Passing the College of Education Writing Assessment on subsequent attempts;

2. Enrolling in and passing LTED 305: Literacy Workshop for Pre-Service Teachers, with a grade of B or better; or,

3. Passing the PRAXIS Pre-Professional Skills Test: Writing (0720), with a score of 4 or better.

Note:  With regard to LTED 305, the College of Education Writing Assessment will be administered in the course as the final exam constitutes 30% of the final grade.

If you failed the exam, you can obtain a copy of your marked exam and scored rubric. E-mail writingassessment@njcu.edu or stop in the office (P303) and fill out a "Test Request Form." You can retrieve your test from the office, 3 days after your request.

Free tutoring is offered in the Open Writing Lab, Vodra 143. To set up your tutoring sessions, you need to stop by the office in person, Monday through Friday, 9am – 12:30pm or 2:30pm – 4pm. Tutoring is available during a range of times, including evenings. If you have questions about tutoring, you may call 201-200-3548.
