Photo Story Tutorial
Digital Storytelling is an extremely powerful and accessible way to develop meaningful and engaging projects with students. (see my video and digital storytelling links on del.icio.us). Below is a short video and hands-on activity to demonstrate Photo Story to teachers. Photo Story is a digital storytelling software that is free to owners of Windows XP.

Below is a video Overview of Photo Story (made with Photo Story and put on YouTube).

Instructions for Hands-On Activity

You will make a short motivational video for first year teachers using the quotes below and images below. You must decide on the arrangement, effects, and accompanying music.

1) Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. – Gandhi

2) [The slave master said] that if you teach him to read, "It would forever unfit him to be a slave. He would at once become unmanageable, and of no value to his master..." 3) In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists. -- Eric Hoffer, Reflections on the Human Condition

4) I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn. - Albert Einstein

5) Acquire new knowledge whilst thinking over the old, and you may become a teacher of others. – Confucius

6) The best educated human being is the one who understands most about the life in which he is placed. -- Helen Keller

7) I like a teacher who gives you something to take home to think about besides homework. -- Lily Tomlin
