Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the requirements for joining PEP?
You must be an registered NJCU undergraduate student in good academic standing. You need to have an interest in learning about health, social and other pertinent life issues, and be willing to present that information to other students and the local community. You must also be open to participating in personal and group development activities.
2. What is the application process?
First, go to the How to Join section of our website to fill out the online application. Then contact us online or by phone (201-200-3165) to set up an appointment for an interview with the PEP staff.
3. Can I get paid or receive credit for being a Peer Educator?
There are some limited opportunities for Federal Work-Study or Co-op credit.
4. Where is PEP located?
As of January 9, 2008 we have relocated to the Gilligan Student Union building, Room 327.
5. When are PEP meetings held?
Meetings are held every Wednesday from 3:00 - 4:30 PM in GSUB 312 during the Fall and Spring semesters.
6. Can I be a Peer Educator if I can't make the weekly meetings?
While it's best if you can attend the meetings, students can participate in a variety of ways. Peppers work on planning, preparing for, and presenting programs five days a week!
7. If I don't like to act, are there other ways I can participate?
While presentations are a primary part of PEP's work, there's lots of behind-the-scenes work to be done in preparation for PEP events. Also, throughout the semester PEP hosts information tables, holds mental health screening events, and assists with mentoring and tutoring programs.
