The Office of
Campus Life
The Office of Campus Life (OCL) at New Jersey City University reports to the Office of the Dean of Students and exists under the auspices of the Division of Student Affairs. This department is designed to be the central office of assistance to students, faculty, and staff members of the institution. The office supports students, first and foremost from their Freshman Year at Orientation straight through to Graduation. Equally important, the OCL assists the Student Government, Greek Life and various student clubs and organizations. In addition, the
office coordinates educational, multicultural, and social activities as well as manages the Michael B. Gilligan Student Union, which is currently under renovation. |

Michael B. Gilligan Student Union
The Michael B. Gilligan Student Union is the focal point of student activities. Dedicated to the memory of Dr. Michael B. Gilligan who served as Professor, Dean of Students and President from 1954-1967, the Student Union supplies services and activities to the entire campus. This large, modern facility provides a wide range of opportunities to enrich and enhance your University experience. It offers a relaxed, informal atmosphere where students, faculty, staff, and alumni can interact freely and easily.
Among the amenities you will find in the Gilligan Student Union (GSU) are the Multipurpose Room, which offers state-of-the-art video and sound facilities for lectures, conferences, banquets, and parties. It is also the home of the Student Government Organization, the Gothic Times, the Tower Yearbook, WGKR Radio Station and many of our clubs, organizations, fraternities and sororities.
Special features housed in the GSU are the University Service Center, the Office of Academic Service for Evening Students (OASES), the Marketplace Cafeteria, the University Bookstore, an art gallery, a study lounge, and a game room.
The Office of Campus Life is responsible for many of the functions that occur on campus. Reserving rooms for events for both on and off campus organizations is one of the department’s main functions.
