Extended Student Absence
EXTENDED STUDENT ABSENCE
green line
One of the primary functions of the staff of the Office of the Dean of Students is to report extended student absences to faculty.  Students are expected to attend all meetings for the classes in which they are enrolled.

If a student expects to be absent from his/her class(es) for an extended period of time, due to illness, death in the family and/or other extenuation circumstances, the Office of the Dean of Students will notify the student’s instructor(s) in writing.  The student should report absences to the Office of the Dean of Students as soon as possible.  In addition, it is advisable for the student to contact their professors directly to alert the instructor(s) of the circumstance.  If a student is unable to contact his/her instructor(s), the student should leave a message with the instructor's department and/or on the instructor’s voicemail.
Students requesting extended absences must provide verification of the reasons for the requests. (i.e., doctor’s note, death certificate, etc.)

It is important to note that the reporting of absences does not relieve the student of responsibility for missed assignments, exams and/or projects, etc. The student is to take the initiative in arranging with his/her instructor(s) to make up missed work.

To report an extended absence, please call the Office of the Dean of Students at 201 200 3525.
In addition, to expedite the process, you may fax the appropriate documentation to the Dean's attention at 201 200 3583.
