Dr. Anne Mabry has been teaching ESL in the New Jersey City University ESL Program since 1988. She has taught abroad and at various colleges and universities in New York City and New Jersey. Dr. Mabry holds an Ed.D. in TESOL from Teachers College, Columbia University; her dissertation focused on the communication and learning strategies of learners of English as a second language. She has presented at national and state conferences on such topics as communication strategies, classroom use of the Internet, and technology-related issues.

During her service as Coordinator of the ESL Program, she authored and directed three Ethnolinguistic Minority Student (ELMS) grants, funded by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, bringing in close to $250,000 to the University. Her teaching interests are the use of literature in the classroom as a way to foster critical thinking, and the research writing process. Outside the Program, Dr. Mabry directs the NJCU Honors Program and teaches Honors courses.

Dr. Mabry lives in a restored century-old brownstone in a historic section of Newark, New Jersey, with her family (two children) and three cats.
