Values Clarification:Abortion

VALUES CLARIFICATION--ABORTION

The Situation:

Melanie Carol is a 16 year old high school student. She works part time in a restaurant to help out her widowed mother with whom she lives.

Last week, Melanie found out she was pregnant. Her boyfriend is also a high school student living with his parents. He has no job at the moment. Both of them need about two more years before they will be ready to graduate. They love each other, but they had not planned to get married until after graduation, and they wanted to delay having children until they had become established in their careers.

Melanie's mother, who is very religious and is opposed to abortion, has agreed to help take care of the baby, should Melanie decide to have it. But she is not in very good health, so she may not be able to help out too much. Also their apartment is rather small and crowded as it is. So it would not be very convenient to have a baby around.
