Registered Students
The H&WC provides free, accessible, and confidential ambulatory healthcare services for
all registered NJCU students. Services range from first-aid and care for acute episodic illnesses, to preventative health screening and education.
It is the goal of the Health & Wellness Center (H&WC) to remove or alter health-related barriers to learning so that the educational experience at NJCU is optimized.
All students presenting to the H&WC will be seen by a registered nurse. If needed, you will be referred to see one of our physicians when available.
Employees
Effective 01/02/09, employees are not eligible to be seen in the H&WC (with the exception of workman's compensation) or in the event of a life threatening emergency while awaiting the arrival of the local EMS. Some programs such as flu vaccines and the blood drive are open to all.
The H&WC also reserves the right to restrict services and/or programs (such as HIV testing) to students only.
Campus Visitors
Emergency first-aid or assistance will be provided by the H&WC or the NJCU Public Safety department as needed.
Minors
Patients under the age of 18 are considered minors. The H&WC is very limited in what care can be provided to minors. The H&WC is not permitted (under both New Jersey State Law and the Nurse Practice Act) to render routine health services and/or administer any medications (including over-the-counter medications) to minors. In the absence of a signed consent from a custodial parent or legal guardian the H&WC can only provide life sustaining care in the event of an emergency.
