Completion of this major prepares one for a career as a private instrumental teacher, private voice teacher, piano accompanist, private theory teacher, solo and ensemble performer, and for some jobs in the non-profit and commercial music industries. Continued study may include a master’s degree in music education or performance. The requirements for admission to this degree track are the passing of an instrumental or vocal audition, and the taking of theory, ear-training, and keyboard placement exams. Course requirements for the completion of the major are listed below. Course codes with an asterisk (*) have prerequisite or corequisite courses. GRADUATEE DEGREE PROGRAMS
The Music/Dance/Theatre Department is now offering the following graduate programs:
  1. Master of Arts in Music Education
  2. Master of Music in Performance (Classical)
  3. Master of Music in Performance (Jazz)
  4. Master of Music in Performance (Multiple Woodwinds)
I. The Master of Arts in Music Education is designed for advanced study in music and music education for teachers of music in public and private schools K-12. The program offers preparation leading to: certification as a music supervisor and administrator; teaching at the university level; and entry into a doctoral program in music education. The culminating activity is a Master’s level thesis. Every candidate for graduation is required to pass a Comprehensive Exam administered in the Thesis Seminar class.
 
Requirements for acceptance in the Masters of Arts in Music Education:
a. Bachelors Degree in Music
b. Music Teacher Certification
c. Proficiency in performance (major instrument or voice)
d. An entrance exam for satisfactory proficiency in music theory,
    ear-training, and music history
e. Admission to graduate study and admission to degree
    candidacy established by the university.

II. Master of Music in Classical Performance (details coming soon)

III. Master of Music in Jazz Performance students are required to take an entrance audition. The degree program puts emphasis on the study and performance of all styles of Jazz. The culminating activities include a lecture-recital and a full-length recital.

IV. The Master of Music in Multiple Woodwind Performance degree requires students to demonstrate their performance abilities on a number of woodwind instruments for their audition. The degree program emphasizes fluency in all performing styles including classical, jazz and commercial music. The culminating activity for this degree program is a lecture-recital and a full-length recital.
