The goal of the undergraduate and graduate piano program at NJCU is to achieve and maintain high musical standards in the areas of pianistic performance. The MDT offers many opportunities for performance in a variety of capacities; these include solo appearances in music seminars and a mid-day concert series as well as ensemble concerts and collaborative piano with instrumentalists and vocalists. Piano majors also participate in large ensembles such as Symphony of Winds and Percussion, NJCU Orchestra, Musical Theatre Pit Orchestra, Chamber music, and Percussion Ensemble. Advanced piano majors have the opportunity to play concertos and other works for piano and orchestra with NJCU Orchestra and the Symphony of Winds & Percussion.

In addition to studies with our accomplished faculty, students are provided additional opportunities to play for and observe world-renowned guest artists. Recent master classes in this department have included Douglas Humpherys and Kum Sing Lee

NJCU MDT department will be hosting NJMEA Concerto competition this March. Being a Steinway school, we offer a perfect forum for this event. We will also be hosting the annual Hudson County Festival as well as have master classes with renowned guests soon to be announced for the coming academic year.
