Mozart Concerto #3 in G major Handel Sonata in D Major Corelli, La Folia Viola Bach, Gamba Sonatas Faure, Sicilienne Hoffmeister, Sonata Hummel, Sonata for Viola Cello Eccles Sonata in g minor Breval Concerto #2 in D Major Faure, Elegy Bass Eccles Sonata in g minor Bach Cello Suite #3 * All applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to play major and minor scales (minimum of two octaves; three octaves recommended) Performance Opportunities The string performance degree program is designed to acquaint students with a wide range of musical styles through a multitude of performing opportunities in addition to individual studies with a faculty of top New York area professionals. Students are encouraged to perform in solo recitals, chamber ensembles, large ensembles, and University productions such as operas and musicals. Each student has a weekly lesson with his/her major teacher and undergraduates are also assigned a weekly coaching with a staff accompanist. String students may perform in any or all of the following ensembles: NJCU Orchestra Opera Orchestra String Chamber Orchestra Musical Theatre Orchestra Chamber Ensembles Studio Orchestra

Many outstanding string soloists have performed major works with the NJCU orchestra, including: Dan Zhu (violin) Brahms Concerto Euna Kong (cello) Bloch’s Schelomo Paulina Kim (violin) Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy Judy Kang (violin) Mendelssohn Concerto Zuill Baily (cello) Dvorak Concerto Giora Schmidt (violin) Beethoven Concerto For the past 10 years the Music Dance & Theatre Department has hosted the ASTA/NJ String Symposium, with a full day of workshops, masterclasses, and guest artists. The symposium will once again be on the NJCU campus in November, 2006.
