24 hour course: Intro to Teaching
As of October 31, 2009, applicants for a Certificate of Eligibility (CE)  for elementary, middle school specialization, K-12 subject area and career and technical education CEs must complete 24 hours of formal instruction, Introduction to Teaching, prior to issuance of the CE. This requirement also serves as an introduction to the teaching profession for those individuals who are exploring career options.
 
This course is offered in various formats, both face-to face and blended. It is offered on weekdays as well as weekends.

Course content focuses on classroom management, assessment, lesson planning, literacy, technology, and finding a teaching position. In order to get an authentic look at classrooms today, one of the requirements of the course is a four hour classroom observation.
