Praxis Exam
Test administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) required in disciplines before a C.E. can be issued. You may contact http://www.ets.org for more information regarding tests, test dates and test locations.
Certificate of Eligibility (C.E.)
The certificate of eligibility (C.E.) is issued by the Department of Education (D.O.E.). However, you should apply for a C.E. through the Community College which you plan to attend. A C.E. is issued to those who have not completed a state approved college teacher training program including student teaching. You must show proof of a completed Bachelor's Degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75, a passing score on the appropriate Praxis II exam, and completion of the physiology and hygiene test. These items along with a check or money order made out to the Commissioner of Education will be sent to the Department of Education by the Community College and New Jersey City University (NJCU) on your behalf.

Physiology and Hygiene Test
The Physiology and Hygiene Test should be taken at you County Superintendent's Office and faxed to the Department of Education. NPTNJ must be written across the top so it can be processed appropriately.

Provisional License
Issued by the Department of Provisional Licensing in the Department of Education (D.O.E.) to those who hold a C.E. or C.E.A.S and have been hired by a school district under a lead teaching contract. This license is valid for 2 years and is paid for when you apply for a C.E.
Standard License
This is a permanent credential that allows the holder to serve without condition in all New Jersey public schools. It signifies successful completion of Provisional Teacher Program requirements.
Official Transcripts
Applicants with Degrees from the U.S. Institutions
An official transcript is required from an accredited U.S. institution, as recognized by the American Council on Higher Education (ACE), that reflects the award of a baccalaureate degree or higher, with a GPA of at least 2.75.
International Students
Applicants with Degrees from Foreign Institutions
Applicants with academic credentials from foreign institutions must provide a copy of a World Education Services (WES)* course-by-course evaluation, to include an overall GPA, indicating that the applicant's education is equivalent to a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited U.S. institution, with a GPA of at least 2.75. (*Evaluation by other NACES member organizations is also acceptable, but WES is preferred. Go to http://www.naces.org for a current list.)
