A 3.00 GPA is required for matriculation in the degree program and for graduation. This program is offered on campus at New Jersey City University; many courses are also offered online.

Note *
  • Students MUST file for and become matriculated through the Graduate Office (NJ Certificate of Eligibility in an instructional area of general education and the Teacher of Students with Disabilities is required).
  • Eligibility to apply for the TOSD to be added to a Standard NJ Instructional Certificate in general education occurs after successful completion of the first seven courses of 21 credits in the MAT sequence as shown above and a passing score on the comprehensive examination.
  • Degree candidates will complete 36 credits for the MAT in Special Education Degree (12 NPTNJ credits + 24 Special Education credits), pass key assessments in all courses, and pass a comprehensive examination.While a GPA of 2.75 is required for admission to this program, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for graduation, along with a copy of a NJ standard Instructional Certificate in an area of general education which may be achieved through the NPTNJ program. Certification Eligibility does not stand alone
