What are the admission requirements to NPTNJ?
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a major in, or closely related to, your intended teaching field.
  • A minimum grade point average of 2.75 in your undergraduate studies or the highest degree earned.
  • A passing score on the Praxis II Content Area exam in the field which you intend to teach.
  • A Certificate of Eligibility issued by the state of New Jersey.
  • A completed application submitted to the Community College which you plan to attend.
What does the application to NPTNJ include?
The application includes an official transcript from ALL colleges / universities attended and a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility.

Where do I submit the application for admittance to NPTNJ?
The application is submitted to the Community College you plan to attend.

To whom can I speak to get advice about NPTNJ?
You may contact the local Community College Liaison to NPTNJ. There are links to each Community College on this web site. 

What role does New Jersey City University play in this program?
New Jersey City University has a partnership with the Community Colleges so that a candidate can go to the Community College and take all of the coursework while still being enrolled as a New Jersey City University graduate student in a non-degree program. The NPTNJ curriculum is also aligned with course content at NJCU.

What is the cost of tuition for NPTNJ?
Tuition is $3,550 for non-credit students. It is $8,160 for the 15 graduate credits. There is also a charge of $550 for the cost of a 30 week Mentor.
 
After I finish the 15 credits in NPTNJ, can I go on and receive a Master's Degree?
Yes, New Jersey City University has several graduate programs in the College of Education leading to a Master's Degree. Each program has different requirements, but all will accept most or all of your credits from NPTNJ. You must complete an application from NJCU's Graduate Office and be accepted before you begin your Master's Degree studies.
 
What graduate programs can I work toward?
Currently, there are 10 Master's Programs that are being offered at off-campus sites across New Jersey. They are the Master's in Teaching Special Education, Master's in Educational Technology, Master's in Reading and Master's in Urban Education-English Focus, Master's in Urban Education-Math Focus, Master's in Urban Education with a Specialization in World Languages (Spanish), Master's in Teaching Elementary Education, Master's in Teaching Secondary Education, Master's of Arts in Urban Education with a Specialization in Teaching English as a Second Language, and Master's of Arts in Urban Education with a Specialization in World Languages (Spanish) . Of course, you may work toward many other graduate degrees if you take courses on campus at NJCU.

What are the courses requirements for each NPTNJ Master's program?

                                                                                                                                             How do I obtain my official transcripts?
You may obtain your transcripts only if you are a credit student. Credit students can obtain their transcripts by contacting the Registrars office at New Jersey City University (NJCU). Non-credit students will not have an official transcript.
