ATTENTION: ALL ALTERNATE ROUTE TEACHER CANDIDATES!
Beginning October 31, 2009, all candidates must take a 24-hour pre-service course, Introduction to Teaching, in order to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility to teach in the state of New Jersey. New Pathways to Teaching in New Jersey is an approved provider of the 24-hour program. Our Introduction to Teaching 24-hour Pre-service Program is offered at many of New Jersey’s community colleges and at New Jersey City University. The purpose of Introduction to Teaching is to provide a snapshot of teaching and to offer candidates an understanding of teaching as a profession. This course is offered in various formats, both face-to face and blended. It is offered on weekdays as well as weekends. Course content focuses on classroom management, assessment, lesson planning, literacy, technology, and finding a teaching position. In order to get an authentic look at classrooms today, one of the requirements of the course is a four hour classroom observation.
