BDI company partners with Chemistry Department at NJCU
VectorGen Founder/CEO Laura Prendergast is working closely with Dr. Ze He of the Chemistry Department in “proof of concept” experiments to develop vector gene therapy technologies that combat viruses that afflict humans. The goal is to introduce genetic material into human cells that destabilize the infectious virus’ ability to reproduce. DNA has been received from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard Medical School and the University of Southern California and has been successfully cloned in the Chemistry Department under the guidance of Dr. Ze He (in blue lab coat) and senior year students Jennifer Della Vecchia of East Rutherford and Jun Giraldo of Ridgefield Park, both biology majors. The intent is to submit a proposal to the National Institutes for Health for a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research grant for work in the area of vector gene therapy.
