Appleseed Networks was launched from
BDI in January 2007. The move was predicated on the founders’ decision to follow a bootstrapping financing model after months of seeking Venture Capital. Critical to the decision was finding an external financing source that could provide the founders with operating capital, while neither requiring them to grant Intellectual Property rights to AppleSeed, nor demanding an inordinate time commitment. An ideal relationship was struck with a publicly traded Silicon Valley company, which invited Appleseed founders to join that company's newly formed Global Technology Innovation Group. In January 2007, AppleSeed moved to San Francisco's SoMa district, home to a great many Internet startups. Development has continued and the company hopes to do a soft-launch of its "whole-product service bundle" in late summer. Founder and CEO Omar Green stated that
BDI was crucial to AppleSeed surviving its early months in New Jersey and that the company benefited from the support and exposure it received at
BDI. "At the end of the day, the real value we got from our tenancy at the
BDI was in the supportive and nurturing environment that it created. It was primarily due to their involvement with us that we were able to take the time to ferret out financing choices, meet new customers, and discover new business models. Beyond this, the presence of the other
BDI tenants, and our shared desire to be successful was invaluable. I think we'll miss that most.”

Products and services include integrated automation for all major carriers through systems that enable the unbanked, low-income demographic to access telecommunications, financial and civic services.
