Within each specialization, there are a number of elective options along with required advanced courses. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor to guide his or her progress in the major and offer counsel toward career goals. The programs are also designed to provide a strong foundation for those students who plan to attend graduate school. Many pursue advanced degrees in accounting, business and law. Since NJCU is located at the hub of the world's largest financial and industrial complex, many of our students find unique opportunities to earn while they learn. Whether they participate in the university's Cooperative Education Program or pursue individual employment, their career exposure enriches their academic experience. For details on specialization requirements and minor programs, please contact us at (201) 200-3353. Experienced senior-level students are employed by the department to tutor their junior colleagues in accounting, statistics and finance. Regular hours for these tutoring services are posted in the department. The Department is a member of the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and sponsors a chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the national business honor society. In spring the Department hosts an award ceremony to induct new members of Delta Mu Delta, followed by an alumni dinner. Every year NJCU Business students participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program sponsored by the IRS. The volunteers receive intensive training so that they can assist community tax payers who would not otherwise have access to tax preparation services. |
