Undergraduate Admission - Full-Time / Part-Time Transfers
Each year, New Jersey City University accepts a number of students for transfer from other two-year and four-year institutions. Students interested in full-time or part-time transfer to New Jersey City University should file their application by April 1 for the Fall Semester and November 1 for the Spring Semester. These dates are subject to extension at the discretion of the Admissions Office.
Full-time and part-time transfer students are required to present the following credentials when they apply for admission to NJCU:
1) Official transcripts from each institution previously attended with cumulative grade point average. Transfer applicants submitting less than 12 semester hours of acceptable credits are required to submit an official high school transcript along with scores from the SAT I.
2) Nurses applying for admission to degree study must submit a transcript(s) of their nursing school record and/or of their study at any other college.
The only exception to this are credits earned elsewhere at the time of NJCU application. For these, a student must submit a final official transcript no later than October 15 for Fall applicants and February 28 for Spring applicants.
The transcripts of students admitted to New Jersey City University as transfer students from other institutions, either for full-time or part-time study, will be evaluated by the University Advisement Center for application toward the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Transfer credits will be granted for courses carrying a letter grade of "C" or better and applicable to the student's degree requirements.
Graduates from accredited New Jersey community or four-year colleges, with an A.A. or A.S. degree, and who have earned a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) will be able to transfer a block of credits, thereby satisfying the University's general studies requirements including the All University Requirements (AUR). All degree credits completed toward the associate degree will count toward the requirements for a bachelor's degree at New Jersey City University.
A.A. and A.S. students who transfer to NJCU from an accredited college outside of New Jersey will have their transcripts evaluated on a course-by-course basis. In order to receive transfer credits, courses are required to meet all the following stipulations: courses must correspond to NJCU course equivalencies; courses must carry a letter grade of "C" or better, or a numerical grade of 2.0 on a scale of 4.0; and a maximum of 66 credits is transferable.
A copy of the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form will be forwarded to the student after admission. For transfer credits from other institutions enrolled in after the student's enrollment at New Jersey City University, the following rules will apply:
a) Credits earned the semester prior to the semester of the student's graduation must be presented for evaluation within four weeks of the availability of the grades and scores to the student.
b) In cases where credits earned during the semester in which the student plans to graduate are not available for evaluation in time for that semester's graduation, receipt of the diploma will be delayed until the credits are evaluated.
Appeals regarding the implementation of the above policies are to be addressed to the appropriate academic dean.
After the student has filed the Application for Major Program with the University Advisement Center, any additional college credit on the student's transcript(s) that requires the judgment of his/her major department will be referred to that department for evaluation of its applicability to his/her degree requirements.
Transfer applicants for teacher certification programs will ordinarily be ineligible to undertake a field internship in their first semester at the University. Students should seek departmental advisement regarding Junior and Senior Field Experience immediately after acceptance to the College.
