Bachelor of Science – Fire Science. A graduate of the New Jersey City University Fire Science Class of 2007, Anthony Avillo is a twenty-five year veteran with the North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue Department. A focused individual, he was appointed in 1984 to the then Weehawken Fire Department. Shortly thereafter he earned his first promotion to the rank of Captain in 1992, followed by advancement to Battalion Chief in 1996 and to his current rank of Deputy Chief in 2002, where he serves as the Regional Tour Commander of the First Platoon. With a passion for training and education of Firefighters, Deputy Chief Avillo is an instructor at the Bergen County and Monmouth County Fire Academies as well as the author of Fireground Strategies and its companion publication, Fireground Strategies Scenario Workbook and other fire service publications. A member of the FDIC Advisory Board, Avillo is a featured instructor at the Fire Department Instructors Conference where he lends his expertise, teaching fireground strategies to Firefighters from throughout the country. Locally, Deputy Chief Avillo serves as a guest lecturer at New Jersey City University Fire Science as well as the recruitment coordinator for the NJCU Fire Science Program at the Communiversity located in Wall, New Jersey. Co-Author of Fire Engineering’s Handbook for Firefighter I & II Study guide, Deputy Chief Avillo has consistently provided a fertile environment for Firefighters to learn and excel in their mission to save lives and protect property. Deputy Chief Avillo and his lovely wife Nicole have two beautiful girls, Stephanie and Lindsay.
