NURSE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The school nursing certificate program is accredited by the National Council on Accreditation for Teacher Education (NCATE), and approved by the New Jersey State Department of Education (NJDOE). It meets the requirements for the Educational Services Certificate Endorsement as a Certified School Nurse.
This endorsement authorizes the holder to perform nursing services and to teach in areas to health in public schools in grades preschool through 12. (N. J. Department of Education Administrative Code title 6A; Chapter 9-13.3)
Students must hold current license as a Professional Registered Nurse, and a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. To be considered for admission into this program, a student must also have an Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and a minimum of 3 years work experience in nursing.
ALL THE FOLLOWING COURSES ARE REQUIRED FOR STATE CERTIFICATION - 30 CREDITS
**21/24 credits generally taken
*These courses are prerequisites for HLTH 643
**Students with a BS/BSN can use at least two courses from their undergraduate study toward certification (Developmental Psych/Lifespan Development and Community/Public Health).
Occasionally there is a third course that can be utilized toward certification We can accept a maximum of 9 credits for the certification program.
(Undergraduate credits accepted toward certification cannot be applied toward the Masters Degree).
Students generally take 21-24 of the 30 credits on the graduate level toward certification.
The
certificate program can be completed in 15-18 months.
All courses taken on the graduate level toward certification
can be applied to our (36-credit) Master of Science in Health Sciences Program with a concentration in School Health Education.
Courses are offered on-campus in Jersey City, online, and on campus at NJ Coastal Communiversity in Monmouth County (
